Empty barrels are wood in stock. You buy them like other materials, then fill them from a spirit lot. That is a different path from receiving spirits already in the barrel (Receive in Bond).
Buy
- Left nav → Purchase Orders → New (or open a draft).
- On a line, pick a barrel type from the picker group Barrels (active types only; barrels must be on).
- Preferred order size and Unit price (per barrel) pre-fill. You buy by group (pallet, truck) of items, not by proof gallons.
- Save / mark ordered the same way as grain.
Receive empty barrels
- Open the PO → Receive / Receive order.
- This is ordinary receive — not Receive in Bond. There is no TIB, DSP, or TTB account on empty wood.
- Stock lands under left nav Raw Materials → tab Barrels.
- Update lot codes if you want, same as other materials.
If the same PO also has bulk spirits, Receive in Bond shows a section Raw materials on this order: "Received as usual — lot codes auto-enter and can be edited after receiving."
Pro Tip: You cannot fill until new barrels are in stock. Fill will stop you with "You have no new barrels in stock. Receive new barrels on a purchase order before filling."
