A barrel type is the empty wood you buy and fill — name, condition, capacity, and characteristics. It is inventory, not a Non-Inventory item. Distilling rickhouse barrels are not the brewery Barrels page.
Open: top-right avatar → Materials → tab Barrels (only when barrels is on). Button: Add New Barrel Type. Search: Search barrel types.
How to create a barrel type
- Click Add New Barrel Type. Drawer: New Barrel Type.
- Name.
- Under Barrel characteristics: Condition (required) — New or Used; Capacity (gallons); Wood species; Char level; Toast level; Wood seasoning / air-dry; Previous fill (used barrels).
- Attributes (checkboxes): Recharred, Plain, Paraffined, Glued.
- Vendor information: Preferred Vendor, Vendor Item Number, Preferred order size (barrels), Per (placeholder pallet, truck), Unit price (per barrel). A live helper shows 1 {Per} = N barrel(s) = $total.
- Click Save.
List columns: Name, Condition, Capacity (gal), Preferred Vendor, Preferred Vendor Item Number, Preferred Order Size, Unit Price.
Disable and delete
Row ⋮: Edit Item; Disable Item / Enable Item (confirm Disable {name}); Delete Item (confirm Deleting {name}). Delete is locked with "Barrel type is currently in use" when PO lines or inventory lots exist.
Pro Tip: Dumping a barrel returns a used shell. Quick-create from dump locks Condition to Used — "Used — barrels returned by a dump are used."
