A mash recipe is the bill and the cook plan. It does not hold proof gallons. Target original gravity is planning and quality only — it never becomes proof gallons. Proof starts when you gauge cuts on the still.
Left nav → Recipes → tab Fermentation. Button: New. Search: Search mash recipes. Filter: All / Active / Disabled.
Create the mash
- Mash name, Target volume (gallons), optional Target original gravity (hint: never becomes proof gallons), optional Default mash cooker, formula reference and approved-on if you have them.
- Create Mash Recipe. Toast: "Mash recipe created — add the materials to its bill."
The Bill
Add Section, then Add Material. A blank material is water (placeholder Water (no material)). Amount and unit of measure. Columns include % of section weight.
Cook & Mash Rest Steps
Add Step: Name, Duration (minutes), Temperature.
QA / QC targets
Base water volume/pH, Backset volume/pH, Premash pH, Yeast pitch temp, Starting fermentation temp/pH, Notes. These travel onto the run.
Part VI is not on this page
Where a grain reports on TTB Production Part VI is on the material (Raw Materials / Miscellaneous → TTB Production Report). Status options include Undecided (a cook makes the month incomplete), Fermentation aid — does not report, or Reports to a Part VI line. There is no field named Fermentation support. Empty-state prose may mention "fermentation support" — that is not a data field.
A recipe with runs cannot be deleted — disable it instead.
Pro Tip: Tag Part VI on corn and malt before the first cook you care about. Undecided materials lock Print on Production for that month.
